It is designed to be used as a reference tool, and includes high-yield physical exam skills and key management of sport injuries in the emergency department. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific joint(s) and includes the basics of a high-yield physical examination including inspection, palpation, range of motion, special tests, as well as neurovascular and skin exams. Corresponding figures of essential anatomy, pictures of physical exam maneuvers, and clinical correlations are also featured. Emergent and common musculoskeletal conditions for each joint(s) are discussed, as well as the appropriate emergency department management for each condition. Additional chapter topics include sports concussions, sports cardiology, heat illness, and common splints used in the emergency department.

    Anna L. Waterbrook, MD, FACEP, CAQSM graduated from the University of Arizona Medical School in 2004, completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Maine Medical Center in 2007, and completed her Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona in 2008. She is board-certified in both emergency and sports medicine. She is currently practicing both specialties at the University of Arizona where she is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Assistant Team Physician for Intercollegiate Athletics, and is Associate Fellowship Director for the Sports Medicine Fellowship. She has authored several book chapters and manuscripts in scholarly journals, contributed to the AMSSM Sports Medicine CAQ Study Guide, and given numerous lectures both locally and nationally.
